PAINTER FRIENDS
A group of up to 10 artists (you don’t have to be a painter!) meet online twice a month for major in-depth support and feedback. Painter Friends is great for any artist needing a safe, intimate, human space to deal with isolation, resistance or creative blocks. Or for anyone just wanting a little extra creative stimulation and community. We meet on Zoom from 4 to 7 Pacific time every other Thursday for 10-meeting courses. We spend class time checking in, getting feedback, showing our work. I share a lot of my own struggles and process and guide participants through many of the same obstacles that I have faced in making work that satisfies the soul.
I also provide DAILY support on a private Facebook group for accountability check-ins. A daily practice of engaging with your art—even for 5 minutes—changes everything. I have also added a Daily Practice Pilgrimage subscription. Gets you access to the private Facebook community and daily practice posts. $40/month. Start anytime.

“Cate White is intuitive to the nth, supportive beyond, wise, knowledgeable and lively, fun, serious and sensitive. All of the above plus more. My artwork has deepened through her leadership/group facilitation and my ability to trust my own voice has strengthened since knowing her. The bonus is getting to know the fellow passengers on the carpet ride. I have new strong friendships because of the trust instilled.” —MBB
"I started working with Cate through the Painter Friends Group - which was a great way to get back in the swing of things. However, I found that I was searching for something more akin to my graduate school experience. So I started meeting with Cate on an individual basis and that has been very powerful. I wish there was a better word for "teacher"—as it seems too bland—and the word "professor" is too loaded with the patriarchy—so I will just say that Cate is a very powerful guide. She has a lot of experience to draw from and share but she also just meets you where you are, asks great questions, and helps you bring forth what you are trying to find. I highly recommend working with her if you are lucky enough to get into her schedule.” —LZ
“Cate White and her Painter Friends class and community were literally my favorite thing I did this year. It inspired me to be even more free in my painting than I already was and it was so helpful to use the class critiques as a deadline to keep making work. I'm eternally grateful for the experience.” —AL
“With Cate’s guidance in ongoing mentorship I have: Learned tangible somatic techniques to encounter and make space for energies in my body that arise while I am painting; I’ve gained new understanding of my painting lexicon through the guidance of Cate looking closely at my paintings as they emerged; I developed new habits for myself in approaching my artistic practice to build intentionality related to longevity that are currently actively supporting my excitement and productivity in the studio.” —SP
“I would recommend Cate’s classes to any one who has a creative urge that has been stifled, or simply misplaced, or someone working but not quite as well as they’d hoped. Or anyone who’d like a little extra push. Cate is a great coach with a wealth of knowledge about the creative process and the places where it fails us or could flow more smoothly. She has an ability to relate to everyone’s production, to see into what they are going for and to support that! Whether beginning or advanced professional, Cate will see your path and go there with you!” —EE
“I have participated in several painting groups that Cate has taught and facilitated. Cate brings great wisdom and insight into painting practice. Her lectures are highly varied and cover the formal elements of visual art, and most notably, bringing the unconscious into consciousness. Cate knows how to encourage, motivate and support her students. I recommend her as a teacher and mentor.” —VR
“I am pleased to have participated in Cate’s Painter Friends classes earlier this year. I appreciated the warm and open sense of community that Cate fostered. Her feedback to everyone was always heartfelt and knowledgeable. It was a wonderful opportunity to get to be serious and to lighten up while engaging in conversations about art making. I also very much enjoyed getting know Cate and her work.” —IN
“I highly recommend Cate White’s Painters Friends. It provides feedback and a way of lessening the painter’s isolation. If you are stuck, there are alternative ways to look at art problems. Cate gives support, honesty and humor to the group and one is never bored but often engaged and supported by Cate and other painters in the group. Good feedback is one of the essential pluses as is sharing of ideas and gaining insight into work you might not normally regard as interesting. Painters Friends is truly a growth experience for the artist.” —LS
“In an attempt to both affectively impact my viewer and use painting as a modality to heal unresolved personal and collective traumas, I have found fellow painter Cate White to be a kindred spirit in theorizing and understanding the power of painting for personal transformation. Through one-on-one mentorship Cate has shared her somatic-based approaches to handling the energies that emerge while painting to strengthen resiliency during the painting process. As I have continued to expand my painting practice and attempt to make a full-time living from my craft, Cate White has served as a beacon for my personal and professional development.”—KCF
“I remember the first time I saw a show of Cate White's work; I was completely captivated by the beauty and truth in her art. When I learned about her Painter Friends class, I decided to take a chance and face myself as an artist again. What I didn't anticipate was just how vital the "friends" part of the experience would be. Through a shared love of Cate and her work, I've connected with beautiful people on this artistic journey—people I would never have met otherwise. Thanks to Cate's insights and humanity, this class has deepened my connections and enriched both my life and my artistic practice. I am so grateful for it all.” -JS
